At Weymouth Dental Associates, we employ the use of sedation dentistry when necessary in order to make sure everyone that visits us feels as comfortable and at ease in the dentist’s chair as possible. We understand many people have anxieties and fears about visiting the dentist, so your comfort and safety is our top priority.
Sedation dentistry is a safe, effective, and reliable method of relieving pain, discomfort, and anxiety for patients undergoing certain dental procedures. By administering anesthesia with various techniques, you can rest assured that you’ll experience a painless and easy procedure.
For patients with extreme fears and phobias of visiting the dentist, sedation dentistry can be used for even simple procedures such as teeth cleaning.
There are four levels of sedation that can be achieved, depending on the patient and the procedure. Minimal sedation means the patient is awake but calm; moderate sedation used to be called conscious sedation, and the patient may or may not remember the procedure; deep sedation is a state of being nearly asleep, yet easily awakened; and with general anesthesia, the patient is fully unconscious.
Sedation can be administered in various ways to achieve various levels of consciousness. Here are the types of sedation we use at Weymouth Dental Associates:
Local anesthetics are often used in combination with sedation dentistry that will numb the area that’s being worked on. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call!
